Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 13th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 46 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Misratha, Libya, around midnight on the 11th of August on a white fiberglass boat. They told us that several people onboard were sick, that they had no more food or drinking water left and that they were adrift. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to the authorities as often as possible. In the evening, we lost contact to the boat. Later, we learned that the travellers were rescued by the Italian coastguard and brought to Pozzallo, Sicily.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
