Summary of the Case:
In the late afternoon of the 08th of May, the Alarm Phone was alerted by a worried relative to a group of 5 people, including 2 women, one of which elderly and sick, who had arrived on the island of Samos in Greece. We sent an email to inform Greek authorities, Frontex and NGOs on the island of the group’s situation and location, informing them that the people needed medical attention and wanted to claim asylum in Greece. 24 hours later, we got the information via Samos volunteers, that a group of 5 people were brought to the camp during the night.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
