Situation: 14 people (including 3 children) stranded on Samos before being taken care of by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Status of WTM Investigation : Concluded
Place of Incident: Eastern Med
Summary of the Case:
In the late morning of the 28th of January, the Alarm Phone was alerted by a group of 14 people, including 3 children, who had arrived on the island of Samos in Greece. We were informed that some of them were injured and in need of urgent medical assistance.
At 11:13 CET we sent an email to inform Greek authorities, Frontex and NGOs on the island of the group’s situation and location, informing them that the people needed medical attention and wanted to claim asylum in Greece.
We received an email at 11:28 CET from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) who confirmed they would send a team to look for the people.
In the early afternoon the group shared their current position with us, which we forwarded to the relevant authorities and NGOs at 14:05 CET.
In the evening, MSF confirmed by email that they had found the group of 14 people, providing them with medical care.
