Summary of the case: On Friday the 22nd of September 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 30 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They were travelling in the wooden boat which was taking in water. They told us that one person onboard was unconscious and that other people had fallen overboard. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to the authorities when possible. Later, we learned that they had been rescued by the NGO vessel Sarah.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
