Summary of the case: On Saturday the 7th of September 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 29 travellers, all men, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sabratha in the morning on a white fiberglass boat. They told us that they were drifting as they were out of fuel and that people onboard were sick. They had no more food or drinking water left. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to authorities as often as possible. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by the Italian coastguard.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
