Summary of the case: On Friday the 6th of September 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 13 travellers, including four women and three children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sabratha at around midnight the day before on a blue and white fiberglass boat. We were not able to reach the travellers but got their GPS position from the relative. We then immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later in the day we managed to reach the travellers who told us that they had no more food and drinking water left and that they were almost out of fuel. We passed on updated positions from the boat to authorities as often as possible. Later, we learned that a boat matching the description we had been given had arrived to Lampedusa.

Border police patrols
