Case name: 2021_04_28-CM412
Situation: One boat, with unclear number of travellers, intercepted by so-called Libyan coastguard.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case:
In the late evening of Wednesday the 28th of April, around 23:30h CEST, the Alarm Phone was called by a relative of a traveller on board of a boat in distress which had departed from Zawiya, the number of travellers on board was unclear. The relative did not have a GPS position and the travellers were not reachable. At 03:59h we managed to speak to the travellers, however as connection was very bad we did not get a GPS position. Nevertheless at 04:20h we alerted authorities passing on the information we had. At 06:43h we finally received their GPS position which we immediately passed on to authorities. Later, we received updated positions which we also immediately forwarded to authorities. In the morning we were informed that the boat had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard.
