Summary of the Case: On the 21st of January in the early morning, the Alarm Phone was alerted twice, to what seemed like two different cases of boats with about 40-50 people each. In the end, it is likely that it was simply one boat, with different people from the same boat calling for help.

At 4.29am CET, the Alarm Phone was alerted twice to the distress of boats of approximately 40 people heading towards Samos Island. The shift team was unable to make direct contact with the boat; but received information that water was entering the boat. The shift team called the Greek coast guard to alert them of the situation. The shift team was able to reach the boat at 4.50am and instructed the travelers to call the Greek coast guard by sending them messages. At 6.16am the travelers confirm that they were on land.

At 5.40am CET, the Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat of roughly the same number of people, but in a slightly different position. The shift team tried to make contact with the telephone-number that should be on the boat but was unsuccessful. They called the port police at Samos, as well as the Greek coast guard, and informed them of this different position. At 9.10am, the shift team received confirmation that the boat had arrived safely in Samos.

Although the Alarm Phone received confirmation that all passengers they had been in contact with had arrived on land, only one boat was confirmed to have arrived on Samos, leading to the conclusion that these was likely two different alerts for the same boat, with individuals calling from two different numbers.
