Summary of the Case: At 3:28am CEST on Saturday the 6th of October the Alarm phone shift team were alerted to a boat in distress carrying 46 people in the Aegean sea. At 3.50am we informed the Greek coastguard of the case. At 5:02am the Greek coastguard called us and told us that they had information that 48 people arrived to Samos. We received confirmation from the contact person at 11:38am that the boat had arrived on Samos and that everyone was fine. We were unable to get confirmation from the travellers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
